Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in power within the city.
Heads-up: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of heroes who will separate from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party knows exactly where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can anticipate learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
